ALGAPLUS was created from the will of two biologists to transfer their scientific knowledge and research experience into a business with impact in the areas of aquaculture, biotechnology and the environment. Well aware of the needs of modern society, both in terms of consumption and responsible exploitation of natural resources, ALGAPLUS is the pioneer, in Portugal, of the production of marine macroalgae (marine vegetables) and its application as the extractive component (biofilter) in integrated multi-trophic aquaculture systems (IMTA).
To produce macroalgae and macroalgae-derived products in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible way, through constant innovation, with high quality standards and rigorous traceability. To promote the implementation of integrated multi-trophic aquaculture systems, as way to develop sustainable fed-aquaculture.
Algaplus strategy is to combine the production of marine macroalgae with animal aquaculture, benefiting from the nutrients released in these systems while contributing to the sustainability of the aquaculture sector. Another key aspect is the capacity to manipulate the production conditions to adjust the quality of the biomass to the needs of the macroalgae processing industries. Lastly, ALGAPLUS is committed to maintain a strong R&D component, seeking the continuous improvement of the production processes and the development of new products
